About Me

I am a Sche(r)merhorn who has never known much about my ancestry. While in Europe we travelled to The Netherlands and as I was looking at the map, found the village of Schermerhorn. There are 3 working windmills and one is a museum.  The curator advised me that my name is Dutch and not German as I thought. I began on 4 years ago and then through Facebook, found 2nd cousins I did not even know I had and  have been able to meet them in Indiana & Illinois and they were able to share stories about my Grandfather & GGrandfather. I have met others on Ancestry from CA, Canada and Texas and we are trying to connect the dots. Jacob Janse Schermerhorn is my 9th GGrandfather. Ancestry has become an addiction, but I love it!  I welcome anyone to write me at [email protected]

Also sent an email of 'ditto' below--sorry, 'over inclusive' as ever; but in a good cause?

Cousin Charles, th' Cas-9 Stoodley (8.1939-), you won't be surprised, 'not-no-more' anyway, by the inter-connectedness and the many "lineage-links" in all our First & Early Settler lines, here's one to "BB"# 2Arent Albertse Bradt-Van Petten (sic.), Claas-1 Frederickse, through his wife "Bradt Book" or "BB"#21 Aeffje (Eva) Arentse Bradt (164/50-50, b. Amsterdam, NL, bp Ouder Kerk-1728); her yr sister "BB"#22 Ariantje Arentse Bradt (13 ys in 11.1664-) m. (JPS, 1873, p. 159) "in July 1676 [as widow of Helmers Otten] Reyer, son of Jacob Janse Schermerhorn [as you know also "Schermerhoorn]...eldest son Johannes Reyerse, b. 4 Oct. 1685, inherited the homestead at 'Schuylenberg'; married (RDC Schenectady, NY records, see [email protected]) 8 (JP, 28) April 1711 Engeltie Janse Hendrickse Vrooman," &c. This gets m'complicated, so I shall leave it here!
