Thinking of you all at the Feb mixer. Shoulder injury from too much golf on vacation!

Consider this an invitation to join me as an arm chair traveller as I travel with Dutch naval officers, observing their behind the scenes duties as they sail MV Nieuw Amsterdam transAtlantically this spring.

Please visit http://anchorsaweigh-charlottevanhoorn.blogspot.com and sign on as a Follower for the 3 weeks of the preparation and cruise. Holland America is arranging for unique behind- the- scenes experiences of the life of today's Dutch mariners.

For me, the experience of a transAtlantic voyage with Dutchmen at the helm will be a personal thrill I hope to share with a sense of humor thrown in. Come aboard!

To Webmaster James S - I am going to send you the Hoorn photo directly because I don't know how to attach it herein and wanted to share the winter wonderland view of Holland with the membership. Thank you for your time on this -- If there is a way for me to post views of Holland directly please advise. My own web page herein only allows one photo at a time I believe

Charlotte, not sure how you could share your Hoorn photo with all of the members, I am still learing as well.  When you post a comment , just above the box you are typing in is a small picture icon, just to left of the smiley face, try that and see what happens.  Looks like the picture must be on a website though.  Try to add the Hoorn photo to your profile picture gallery.

Just received a wonderful wintery photo of the Hoorn Holland harbor which i will try to upload to My Photos Section. Hope you all enjoyed celebrating Sinterklaas's arrival with your families. It reminded me to reserve my room at the Ft Orange Club for the Tulip Festival!. I'll be in town the evening on Thursday before the parade and if you want to join me for a Dutch treat dinner at that wonderful old club, please keep it in mind.

Today I reserved a berth on the Holland America Cruise Lines Flagship Nieuw Amsterdam for the April 3rd, 15 day  Transatlantic Crossing to Barcelona. While HAL is offering some unique visting opportunities in Spanish ports, I really wanted to immerse myself in the maritime culture of Dutchmen at sea. Last summer I cruised the Med all too briefly on the Noordam and had as much enjoyment aboard as in the various ports. The staff in all the specialty venues of wine service, fine dining, musical entertainments in the small bars and large stages were all so professional, yet charming.

Admittedly, having just finished a live TV season in Holland, I was treated somewhat like a celebrity, but, honestly, I think everyone we met aboard felt the same way. -- So contact your travel agent or ask me for mine, find a deal and come sit at our table. HAL goes all out for Dutch Americans in my book.
